Passport Information

The State Department and the Office of Security for the National Territory of Mexico, have jointly announced that effective immediately and through the 30th of September, 2007. Citizens of the United States of America may enter and exit the country without the need of a passport, as long as they are in possecion of the following:

    1. Official receipt from the State Department, as proof of passport application and indicating that passenger is awaiting the actual document. This receipt may be obtained by entering the official website of the State Dept. http://travel.state.gov
    The conditions for travel without passport are the following:
      a) Travel is to CANADA, MEXICO, BERMUDA and the CARRIBEAN. All other destinations will still require passports.
      b) Exemption validity period: June 8th through September 30, 2007.
      c) The following documents will be accepted for adults over the age of 16.
      (1) Government issued document such as (Drivers License, State I.D., etc.)
      (2) Receipt from Dept. of State with proof of passport request/application.
      d) Acceptable documents for minors 16 years and younger: If accompanied by parent or legal guardian, receipt as proof of passport request. Minors traveling unaccompanied, WILL REQUIRE VALID PASSPORT.

    Change in International Travel Requirements

    All travelers, including U.S. citizens, to and from the Americas, the Caribbean, and Bermuda will soon be required to have a passport or other accepted document that establishes the bearer's identity and nationality to enter or re-enter the United States. Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative. The initiative will be implemented in phases. The proposed timeline is as follows:
    • December 31, 2006: Requirements applied to all air and sea travel to or from Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda.
    • December 31, 2007: Requirement extended to all land border crossings as well as air and sea travel.
